Raymond and Gina: Engagement

Published by Alan Yu on Tuesday, July 21, 2009

This last Saturday, I shot some engagement photos for my brother and his fiance Gina. I can't believe my little brother is getting married! Very exited for them and their life together. It was a lot of fun to just hanging out with them early on a Saturday morning.

Miller Outdoor Theatre - 42nd Street

Published by Alan Yu on Sunday, July 12, 2009

Last night the girlfriend and I went to check out the performance of 42nd Street at Miller Outdoor Theatre.  Upon getting there, the first reaction was wow...there's a lot of people here.  The last time I was here there were hardly as many people (see post about Beauty and the Beast).  Previously, we got into the actual covered area and there were only a few people with lawn chairs on the lawn. This time around it seems that everyone came out and brought lawn chairs and picnics.  We weren't any different with our sandwiches (from Carli's in Midtown) and a few beers.  Plopped down at one of the scarce open spots on the grass and snapped off the shot below since there was nice light from the setting sun. I'm glad that Houstonians take advantage of free events such as these.  Theatre Under the Stars puts on great shows with Broadway caliber talent.  Check out www.milleroutdoortheatre.com for info on future shows.  You'll probably see me at them!

I have 4 versions of the same shot as I was experimenting with different processing.  Let me know what you think is best to your eye.

Minute Maid Park - Houston Astros

Published by Alan Yu on Sunday, July 12, 2009

Just wanted to share one photo this evening of Minute Maid Stadium, home of the Houston Astros.  This year is the 10th year of the Astros playing in Minute Maid.  This was taken on 7/12/09 during the 5-0 win against the Washington Nationals.  I don't go to many baseballs games, but I may start attending more.  They have value days on Wednesday nights where you get a hot dog, drink, chips and a deck 2 ticket for $10.  Definitely not a bad way to spend a weekday evening.  The stadium also seems very photographer-friendly.  I read on their website that the rule is all camera equipment is allowed as long as lenses are shorter than 4.5 inches. I had my 70-200 with me and that definitely is longer than the prescribed 4.5 inches.  The attendant checking bags at the entrance saw it and didn't even question it.

Baby Henry at 5 Months

Published by Alan Yu on Tuesday, July 07, 2009

As promised in a prior post, here some the pictures of Melissa's sister Nary's son Henry (or Hiro or Hen Hen as people like to call him).  He is the most precious baby ever!  He likes to spit and drool in people's faces though and loves banana/strawberry puree.  I wish we didn't live 4 hours away so we could see him more often.  I love you Henry!
